Summer’s ahead! It’s a FANTASTIC time for FAMILY FUN! MORE TIME with your little ones. It’s also a fabulous time to fortify your children and strengthen their skills for life!
One of my favorite fables as a child was the fictional story of the ants and the grasshopper. If you remember the ants used the peaceful summer days to gather food and shelter for the winter while the grasshopper taunted and laughed at them. I’ll never forget the childhood picture-book page of the grasshopper frigid, gaunt and desperately wanting when the winter came and he wasn’t prepared.
I am the first to love the summer sun, the pool, horse-riding, hiking, family trips – all those wonderful things that we really can’t do well in the winter, including most of all finding a little breathing room! (Impossible the past 3 months and more sparse in summer with 10 children than it used to be but I’m determined to find it! I’ve found setting up a rhythm for the summer days and tasks- a comfortable, flexible schedule- helps me feel better about my time even in the summer.)

mom’s school agenda / chore chart for summer
This summer I aim to RELAX a little, have FUN, to take advantage of time off school to FORTIFY my relationships with my children and the love of my life. Looking over the piles of papers that have arrived on my counter as the school year closes out and teachers send everything home I’ve also formulated some higher aims. I want to fortify my children for next school year – bless them with the gift of future success. Summer is a perfect time to do that!
So here’s my plan (the preschool teacher in me took over) to create time with my children and opportunities to share, grow, become, learn, and rejoice together. My biggest goal of this little summer school by Mom is to give them better concentration, more interest and love for learning, and a better work ethic so that in the school year to come they will be happy little ants rather than frigid, lonely, suffering little grasshoppers.
Have FUN with your FAMILY this summer!!!
And good luck getting there!! I feel like if I don’t self-destruct from the pressure and demands of the last 2 months of an overloaded spring and end of school year (only two weeks left!), I’ll be fine and dandy all summer long!!!!
Much Love,
CaMarie Hoffman
