Day #7 – Be Flexible!
Whoever it was that chose ‘elasticity’ as the super power for ‘ The Incredibles’ mom really knew what they were doing! The ability to flex and bend, to great lengths at times, is extremely important for not only MOMS but for MARRIAGE! If you remember the movie you know there were a few times when Elasta-Girl’s flexibility is what held her family together at times! It saved them all! This is what it can do for you, and me, and our families, on a daily basis!
Yes, we all have a plan, a perfect picture ideal we keep in our heart and mind, a goal we aim for everyday. (If you don’t have a clear big picture, it will help: “Put first things first. Do the best you can while on earth to have an ideal family.” Richard G. Scott)
And yes, every single day of course we may get tiny steps closer, or turn small degrees toward our goal, but of course we absolutely fall short!
THAT is where flexibility comes in!
Everyday we have expectations of ourselves, our day, our life, our spouse, our children. Sometimes what’s delivered in actuality is a far cry from the lovely painting we had in our brain that morning!
THAT is where flexibility comes in! (And remember too, some days are better than expected! Must be willing to flex with that!)
Sometimes your to-do list is miles long, and in the end it looks nothing like your spouse’s!
THAT is where flexibility comes in!
The ability to be flexible with the ups and downs, ins and outs, all the demands of life will DEFINITELY help you survive and thrive instead of SNAP and break in your marriage! It also helps you progress, rather than give-up, toward a worthy goal that takes bending, maneuvering, waiting, and work to get to!
It will make your marriage stronger, more fulfilling and the day to day life of it more manageable!
So FLEX!! STRETCH those patience, cheerfulness, and holding-firm-to-your-belief-that-good-things-come muscles every day to gain flexibility!!
Sometimes, if an elastic is stretched out too far, for too long, it loses it’s ability to bounce back. SO BOUNCE!- Every day in your home and marriage from serious to silly, from work to play, from concern and deep concentration to relaxed and mindful sensation!
Celebrate YOUR FLEXIBILITY today!!
p.s. My 5, 7 & 9 year old daughters have been working on their flexibility lately, coming closer to doing the splits each day. It’s so common for children this age to find joy in their bodies ability to flex!! Wouldn’t it be great if we found as much satisfaction in seeing how flexible we could be maneuvering, managing, and waiting through the tricky demands of our days!! Challenge #7 -Be Flexible!
